In a fascinating study – “Building a Better America” – Americans prefer by an overwhelming majority the Swedish economic model.
In a time of historically high levels of economic inequality in the United States, with the richest one percent controlling half of the country’s wealth, the respondents in all income groups, Democrats as well as Republicans, prefer more equitable distribution of wealth and income in America.
In the study by Professor Dan Ariely, Duke University, and Michael I. Norton, Harvard Business School, the participants were asked to choose from various anonymous income distribution pie charts. Sweden was not named, nor was the United States. Ninety two (92) percent of respondents chose the diagram depicting Sweden.
The PBS Newshour reported the other night on the study.
