Born in Stockholm, Sweden, I have spent most of my adult life abroad, primarily in the United States ever since my student days in California in the 1960s, and I am now one of America’s millions of Swedish Americans.
A journalist most of my life, I have reported from Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central America, Canada, and the United States, primarily for the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter and the Christian Science Monitor.
I am also an author. My fourth book, “Scandinavians in the State House — How Nordic Immigrants Shaped Minnesota Politics,” was published in April 2017 by the Minnesota Historical Society Press. Prior to that, Tredje bordet från höger – över gränser i Östeuropa, about my years in former Yugoslavia and Eastern Europe, was published in Sweden in 1981. In 2012, Amerika – drömmarnas land, was published in Sweden. An English and updated version of that book with the title, Land of Dreams: A Reporter’s Journey from Sweden to America, came out in the United States in 2013.
